CAPED Scholarship Descriptions

All scholarships require applicants meet the general eligibility requirements outlined on the Eligibility page, unless otherwise noted. All scholarships require and application statement not to exceed 500 words in length.

Scholarships for Veterans

ELIGIBILITY ALERT: General Eligibility Requirements + Applicants must show proof of being a veteran.

  • CAPED Veterans Scholarship ($500): For students who are veterans and enrolled in their school’s disability support program.
  • Yeiki Matsui Memorial Scholarship ($1,500): For student-veterans with disabilities who demonstrate community service and are in good academic standing.

Scholarships for Students with Specific Disabilities

  • Dick Griffiths Memorial Scholarship ($1,000): For students with a learning disability in math.

ELIGIBILITY ALERT: General Eligibility Requirements + Applicant’s Disability Certification Form must indicate a Learning Disability in Math.

  • Susan Bunch Memorial Scholarship ($1,000): For students with a documented learning disability pursuing a degree program.

ELIGIBILITY ALERT: General Eligibility Requirements  + Applicant’s Disability Certification Form must indicate a Learning Disability + Applicants must be pursuing a college/university degree (Associate, Bachelors, Masters, etc.) program. Applicants pursuing a certificate program will not be considered.

  • Access Technology Scholarship (up to $500 in assistive technology): For students using assistive technology to access college courses.

ELIGIBILITY ALERT: General Eligibility Requirements. More than one awardee may be selected for this award. This scholarship award is in the form of technology (hardware/software); computers/laptops will not be considered for award. There is no cash award.

  • Walter Young Memorial Scholarship ($1,000): Applicant must be a student pursuing a degree at a California college/university who is blind or visually impaired. 

ELIGIBILITY ALERT: General Eligibility Requirements + Applicant’s Disability Certification Form must indicate a Blind or Visually Impaired. Applicant must be a student pursuing a degree at a California college/university who is blind or visually impaired. Verification of disability, letter of recommendation, transcripts, and proof of current enrollment required. Financial need must be demonstrated.

Scholarships for Neurodiverse Students

ELIGIBILITY ALERT:  General Eligibility Requirements + Applicants must have an intellectual disability or ASD, or be a Regional Center client.

  • Amber Perez Memorial Scholarship ($500): For students with intellectual disabilities or on the autism spectrum participating in postsecondary education.
  • College Access & Success Scholarship ($1,000): For neurodiverse students building career skills through college or university classes.

Scholarships for Academic Excellence and Leadership

  • CAPED Excellence Scholarship ($1,500): For students with a disability demonstrating high academic achievement and community involvement.

ELIGIBILITY ALERT: General Eligibility Requirements + Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA in order to apply.

  • Steve Fasteau Past Presidents’ Scholarship ($1,500): For students with a disability showing leadership and dedication to advancing students with disabilities in postsecondary education.

ELIGIBILITY ALERT: General Eligibility Requirements +  Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA in order to apply.

  • CAPED Memorial Scholarship ($1,000): For students with a disability and a minimum 3.0 GPA.

ELIGIBILITY ALERT: General Eligibility Requirements + Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA in order to apply.

  • Betty Bacon Memorial Scholarship ($1,000): For students with a disability attending a 4-year college or university.

ELIGIBILITY ALERT: General Eligibility Requirements  + Applicants must be attending a 4-year college/university in the Fall in order to apply.

Scholarships for Career Development in Counseling and Disability Services

  • Counseling and Career Development Scholarship ($500): For students with a disability pursuing a career in counseling or disability services.

ELIGIBILITY ALERT: General Eligibility Requirements  +  Majoring in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Special Education, Disability Services, Rehabilitation Counseling or any other closely related field. 

  • Alyssa McCroskey Memorial Scholarship ($1,000): For students with a disability making a positive difference in the lives of others struggling with mental health.

CAPED reserves the right to award any scholarship to qualified students who have applied for other scholarships during the application cycle.
